Frequently Asked Questions: Swim Club membership is open to individuals and families who are interested in family entertainment, healthy outdoor recreation and social interaction. Members must follow the By-Laws of the club and the facility rules in order to remain in good standing. In general, membership includes use of the facility and access to events and programs sponsored by the Club. In addition to use of the pools and pool support areas, concession stand, playground, basketball and volleyball courts, lawns and parking, the following are some of the events and programs Nassau organizes and sponsors:
What are the types of membership? There are two types of membership; Active and Inactive. Active members have full member privileges, full use of the facilities and may bring guests. After the first year, members may also choose Inactive membership. Inactive memberships maintain a membership but inactive members don’t have voting or facility privileges. To use the pool, inactive members must come as a guest of an active member and pay guest fees. An Inactive membership may be reactivated by paying active annual dues prior to opening and does not require reapplying for membership and possibly being placed on a waiting list. After Opening Day, Inactive Members may pay Active Dues at any time to reinstate their Active status. Previously paid Inactive Dues for the current year cannot be refunded after Opening Day. Who does the membership cover? Active and Inactive membership includes immediate family members living full-time in the same household (or temporarily living out of the house for part of the year such as college-age children). Active annual dues are $280, payable by March 1 each year. New members also have three, one-time expenses: A $300 stock purchase which is redeemable to you when you leave the club, a $125 initiation fee, and a $150 assessment which goes toward reducing the facility mortgage. These fees can either be paid in full with your membership application or the Club offers a ‘payment plan’ wherein $280 is due with the application (annual dues and initiation) as well as three $192 checks postdated for the next three months (equal division of Stock, Initiation and Assessment). So, for example, if you joined April 1 you would send one $280 check with the application and three checks for $192 dated May 1, June 1, and July 1. Your membership is activated on receipt of the application and payment plan checks. Post-dated checks are held until their due dates and then submitted to the treasurer. Inactive annual dues are $25, payable by March 1 each year. Click here to download the 2009 Membership application When are membership dues paid? Membership dues are due by March 1 each year. The Club sends out a notice in February but members are responsible for paying dues on time whether or not a reminder notice is received. A late fee is charged for Active dues not received by April 1. Active Dues not received by May 1 are subject to a second late fee and a change of status from Active to Inactive. Members who have had their status downgraded from Active to Inactive due to late payment must pay all dues, late fees and a reinstatement fee to be restored to active status. Inactive Dues not paid by Opening Day will be deducted from the Stock value. To become a member one should contact the membership chairperson who can answer questions and help with the application process. Click here to jump to our Contacts information where information is available for the current chairperson as well as other Board members . Members may bring guests - each guest pays a small daily fee at the gate and may visit up to five times per year. Additional information is available in the Club by-laws. If bringing more than 1 guest please fill out the following form before coming to the pool. It will allow for much faster processing at the front gate, Thank you. GUEST FORM Can I have an event such as a birthday party or group get-together? Yes, we encourage Members to use the grounds for group events such as birthday parties and family events. Guest charges for organized groups are highly discounted. Please contact the Pool Manager or Assistant Manager to coordinate availability of the facility and plan for appropriate staffing. Can I send the children with a sitter? Yes. A sitter may be registered by contacting the Membership Chairperson. Sitters who are not Members may use the facility only while they are caring for Member children. Members pay $25 per season for each sitter. Members who care for non-member children may bring the children they care for as guests to the facility. (Click here to read "What about bringing a guest?".) Yes. Members may bring their visiting, out-of-town grandchildren for free. Local grandchildren may come to the pool as Guests. (Click here to read "What about bringing a guest?"). How do I change my membership from Active to Inactive or vice versa? Membership status changes may be made by contacting the Membership Chairperson. Active members pay Active annual dues and have full facility use privileges. Inactive members pay Inactive dues but do not have any facility privileges. Essentially, Inactive membership sustains a position on the member roll and allows reactivation upon request and payment of active fees without requiring a new membership application process. Active members may choose Inactive status by indicating their wishes to the membership chairperson before the pool opens and paying annual Inactive dues. If notification occurs after Opening Day, Active status will have already been downgraded to Inactive and Inactive Dues Inactive fees paid from the Member's Stock value will not be refunded. Inactive members in good standing may return to Active status at any time by indicating their wishes to the membership chairperson and paying full active dues for the current year. If notice is received before Opening Day the Inactive fee is not charged. If notice is received after Opening Day, the Inactive fee will not be refunded. How do I terminate my membership? A membership may be terminated at any time by contacting the Membership Chairperson in writing and (if issued) include the stock certificate number and/or certificate. When a membership is terminated, the Club will remove all persons included on the membership from the roll and redeem the current value of stock. Additional details associated with termination are available in the Club By laws. Can I sell my stock to another person? No. Stock certificates are not transferable. When terminating a membership, stock may only be redeemed by the Club. However, at the time of redemption, a current member may sponsor another person for membership. The sponsored person is then put at the top of the waiting list (if one exists at that time) and will be offered a membership when one becomes available. New memberships may not be immediately available primarily for two reasons. First, if the current member was Inactive, a new Active membership was not created by the redemption process. Second, the club may currently be at or above the maximum number of Active members due to several factors. How can I get a copy of the Club by-laws? Click here to read and print a copy of the Club by-laws.
Whom may I contact if I have questions or comments? Contact the Membership Chairman or any Board Member. We'll be happy to receive your comments and we'll try to answer your questions promptly.
